Correlated gamma frailty models for bivariate survival data

چکیده
Frailty models are used in the survival analysis to account for the unobserved heterogeneity in individual risks to disease and death. To analyze the bivariate data on related survival times (e.g. matched pairs experiments, twin or family data), the shared frailty models were suggested. Shared frailty models are used despite their limitations. To overcome their disadvantages correlated frailty models may be used. In this paper, we introduce the gamma correlated frailty models with two different baseline distributions namely, the generalized log logistic and the generalized Weibull. We introduce the Bayesian estimation procedure using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique to estimate the parameters involved in these models. We present a simulation study to compare the true values of the parameters with the estimated values. Also we apply these models to a real life bivariate survival data set of McGilchrist and Aisbett [1] related to the kidney infection data and a better model is suggested for the data.

Hidden Frailty: Myths and Reality
Hidden differences in the survival chances of individuals in a population influence the shape of the mortality rate observed in demographic and epidemiological studies. To evaluate the contribution of such hidden variations to observed hazards, frailty models have been suggested. The application of these models to the analysis of survival data in demography, epidemiology, and biostatistics has ...

Frailty models are used in survival analysis to account for unobserved heterogeneity in individual risks to disease and death. To analyze bivariate data on related survival times (e.g. matched pairs experiments, twin or family data), bivariate correlated frailty models were suggested, where the frailties were constructed using independent additive components. The purpose of this paper is to des...
متن کاملFrailty Models and Copulas: Similarities and Dif- ferences
Copulas and frailty models are important tools to model bivariate survival data. Equivalence between Archimedean copula models and shared frailty models, e.g., between the Clayton-Oakes copula model and the shared gamma frailty model, has often been claimed in the literature. In this note we show that, in both models, there is indeed the well known equivalence between the copula functions; the ...
متن کاملWienke, A. Correlated frailty models in ageing THE ROLE OF CORRELATED FRAILTY MODELS IN STUDIES OF HUMAN HEALTH, AGEING AND LONGEVITY
This talk gives an overview about the analysis of twin data on diseases, aging and longevity. One goal of our research in this area is the evaluation of the genetic contribution to life span and mortality from different causes. Such evaluation is performed using the idea of correlated frailty. We apply different correlated frailty models to the analysis of bivariate survival data from Danish, F...
متن کاملModeling heterogeneity for bivariate survival data by shared gamma frailty regression model
In the analysis of survival data with parametric models, it is well known that the Weibull model is not suitable for modeling survival data where the hazard rate is non-monotonic. For such cases, where hazard rates are bathtub-shaped or unimodal (or hump-shaped), log-logistic, lognormal, Birnbaun-Saunders, and inverse Gaussian models are used for the computational simplicity and popularity amon...
